xGlennx
25th June 2008, 11:55 PM
It isn't that much different. I just think that if you can download the CD straight away from the record label by buying it and supporting hardcore then there's no excuse to get it from anywhere else. It's hardly expensive either for people who want to make that argument.
Only recently have labels started doing it and this is the first time that I've really thought that way about it, so it might seem like it's stupid being this way about this one release, but any release by a small hardcore label from now on I'll delete if it gets posted.
xMac Kellx
25th June 2008, 11:59 PM
B9 are hardly a small HC label.
This is also such bullshit. I'll download what I want. I'll buy buying my CDs in bulk at S and F or Ieper. I don't have a credit card and this thread will be shit without hardcore. Suck the dick, Glenn.

I kinda feel bad lately for downloading EPs and Albums and such mainly because I look at my CD collection and its all really old shit I bought years ago that I never even listen to. Its pretty cool actually having the CD and seeing the art work and reading the lyrics. Main reason I download from this thread is because its handy and quick rather than waiting for weeks for a delivery. I had planned on getting the Album anyway but I suppose If I can download it from the label I will but my poor CD collection still wont have it.

A good few labels now are doing the download once you've paid thing. Or at least they'll let you download it once it's sent out so you don't have to wait for it to arrive.
And again, leaks are up on blogs and torrent sites within hours, you can find stuff there.
But buy music as well as t-shirts.

Please, show me one hardcore forum where they post downloads to new releases. If this is a hardcore forum and you all think of yourselves as hardcore kids then support bands and labels and buy their records and not just wait for someone to post a link to it on here.
Links to out of print stuff is encouraged.

xGlennx
26th June 2008, 01:18 AM
That's a site that posts links to hardcore releases. It just happens to have (a very inactive) forum.
Alex
26th June 2008, 01:26 AM
Okay well regardless of that, do you think stopping people posting links to the kind of music people here like will make the scene any better? People won't get into new bands and then those bands will lose the possible gain of having that person at a show or buying a tshirt or future record. I know thats how I was with Lemuria, my favourite band. I found a link, downloaded it and now I own most of their stuff on CD and have bought merch, seen them live etc. I just think it'll stop new people getting into bands that they probably won't hear otherwise. I wouldn't have heard Comeback Kid if it wasn't for Cruise giving me a link to "Wake The Dead" and I wouldn't have heard Dead Swans if it wasn't for this forum either which means I wouldn't be going to see them when they come here or buying their merch at the show.
Its not physically stealing from the bands, they are not losing a physical copy of their record, they are simply gaining another fan. I can't understand why the mods would ban posting links to hardcore stuff.
xGlennx
26th June 2008, 01:34 AM
For people to hear what the band is like before seeing them is why they have songs up on a Myspace page or whatever. Threads get posted on here constantly about new bands. This thread is not the only way on here you hear about bands. If you like the songs on the Myspace then buy the CD from them. I know most people will just look for somewhere else to download their stuff and that's fine, just don't come back and post it on here.
Shane
26th June 2008, 01:35 AM
Its kind of changed these last few years. In terms of hearing/knowing/liking bands etc.
MP3's an stuff has taken over. Downloading is huge. Its all about merch & live and support these days, even if I/we do download music.
That said, its cool of Glenn and whoever else from preventing downloads to bands they show respect to.

This forum was never the place for downloading anyway. Almost no-one here actually uploads anything, they just re-post links. I'll continue to look to Rawrshare or Demonoid and seed all the new hardcore releases.
Oh yeah, the coding links thing would have been smart. There's probably always gonna be a few dozen randomers here now leeching off links you may not want here. If you'd coded links to begin with you could post links to hardcore stuff knowing only a few people who're frequent here would see it, and most of them would be ordering the record anyway.
Alex

Bryan

Support hardcore and buy something rather than download it.
You seem to already know that deleting links isn't going to stop any albums being downloaded and saving hardcore so I'm still confused.
I can definitely see where you're coming from though. I hate it when people just download things from sound bands when they have the money to put into it. But I think people should find out these things for themselves and a ban on these kind of uploads isn't really a step in that direction.
Whatever I suppose.

Glenn's just trying to support a band that he likes. I bought the CD but I don't care if someone downloads it. I'm trying to buy back most of the releases I've downloaded (mainly hardcore) and I'm attempting to buy band's releases based on their myspace/demos but I'll continue to download stuff.

I don't download music from this site anymore cause barely any of the links interest me and if they do i have them already through various other sites.
I don't agree with your reasoning behind this, i think if you where to do it should be for all upcoming artist's release's and not just ones that you have a preference for. Like what makes these bands more deserving of your protection then other smaller artists other then your own personal taste? But it is your forum so do what you please

I wouldn't have heard Comeback Kid if it wasn't for Cruise giving me a link to "Wake The Dead"
Cut to 2008 and Cruise could still send you a link to Wake the Dead. Glenn's not going to delete your PMs.
How actively are you willing to follow this principle (just out of curiousity)? If someone you know or someone on here has their own blogspot chock full of B9 or Deathwish links will you have real life beef with 'em?
Oh Ronan....
You seem to already know that deleting links isn't going to stop any albums being downloaded and saving hardcore so I'm still confused.
I can definitely see where you're coming from though.
Oh Bryan...
I don't agree with your reasoning behind this, i think if you where to do it should be for all upcoming artist's release's and not just ones that you have a preference for. Like what makes these bands more deserving of your protection then other smaller artists other then your own personal taste? But it is your forum so do what you please
OH BOYLER.
1: this place is not a democracy
2: its specifically for bands on small labels that make their album available digitally for cheap, or free when you order a physical copy, and its not that hardcore bands are more deserving but Glenn's less likely to know when some dodgy emo band with a ridiculous name has made their album available online for a fiver.
I downloaded the Dead Swans EP, and the Architects split they done. I like them, and I'll go to the gig.
If I hadn't heard them I might not have bothered. Likewise with Comeback Kid, and most bands that plays. Downloading helps me go see bands and support them that way.
In my head you're a gorilla with a keyboard.

I think that downloading an album is ok if you are gonna buy it after you download it.
I agree with Glenn though. It doesn't cost that much to order them and bands like this need the money. The don't rip you off either so you might as well buy it.

The lack of that whiney voice is one reason for my disappointment. The major reason, though, is the lack of insanely catchy gems.

Incidentally, that new CIWWAF is as disappointing as the previous record.
Also, I'm more inclined to agree with Glenn on this whole debacle with regards new releases. I mean, unless it comes to it that in 6 months the same links are getting deleted, then the whole foundation for his argument goes out the window, but for new leaks for what would be seen as small time bands (even Have Heart in terms of the music industry as a whole beyond the realms of hardcore) I'm sure they appreciate every sale of their record they get, and not everyone on here that claims to be the biggest fan ever will buy the record after downloading.
Also, nobody posted that Langdon Beck EP Derry was asking for a few pages back, this is another request. I want that shit.
