It depends really, the Volta's music has more energy in it while ATD-I made up for it live, well Cedric and Omar did anyways which is practically The Mars Volta.

Oh, thanks for the leak by the way. Cumcore.

have to say i much prefer at the drive-in (relationship of command being one of my all time favourites) and i even prefer sparta to the mars volta although it tends to switch, i haven't heard frances the mute yet/

Been a while since someone posted here.....

New Mars Volta album, people.
"The Bedlam In Goliath". Recommend you get it if you liked the first album. It's back to the simplicity of "Deloused...". If you'd call it simplicity.
I love the single Wax Simulacra. :)

Sparta > Mars Volta.

goo
16th February 2008, 11:22 AM
I always kind of rooted for Sparta because Cut Your Ribbon was an especially good song, and they didn't act as if they were the biggest deal ever, and their jeans fit.

Sean-Lugsy
16th February 2008, 01:02 PM
I wanted to love Sparta. I don't.

Ronan
16th February 2008, 02:55 PM
I listened to Sparta once. It didn't stick. I dunno how big a deal TMV think they are or what size jeans they wear, so... I probably prefer them. A lot.

Gonna check this new album now. Hopefully it's class.

Relationship of Command. Just write "SPARTA" across it and pretend. Then don't listen to Sparta.

16th February 2008, 08:28 PM
Sparta are great, but I like them te least out of the three. They just seem to lack the raw energy that TMV and ATD-I have/had. They're really nice to listen to, though.

goo
16th February 2008, 11:00 PM
I didn't get much of a "raw energy" vibe off the Mars Volta. There's a definite "Santana is a legend" vibe.

Sos
17th February 2008, 12:02 AM
Well on Deloused there is. I didn't bother with the 2nd and the 3rd because I heard that 2 wasn't as good as the first, and when they released the 3rd album on that myspace exclusive thing I wasn't mad into it. Have yet to hear the new album though.

Ronan
17th February 2008, 12:12 AM
If you're saying that the albums after Deloused have less of those wanky (and vaguely hispanic, if I remember what I listened to in 2005 correctly) santana leads, then I definitely need to check 'em out. I only really bothered with a few songs off Frances the mute (which I really liked), and none from Amputecture...

goo
17th February 2008, 12:19 AM
Anything I heard after Deloused seemed infinitely more chill, curly hair, weed and widdly widdly. Actually, someone find a link for that second album?

Robbie Control
17th February 2008, 05:45 PM
I still haven't got the new album. These were my favourite band for a long time, seeing them live before they went not as good was class. The Tremulant EP is still the best thing they've done. Frances the Mute is definitely as good as Deloused in the Comatorium btw. I thought that by Amputecthure they had lost feeling and seemed to be very bland in comparison to what they were. I used to try collect all their vinyl before they started releasing loads. Someday I'll eBay some gold.

EDIT: Does anyone have a working link for Bedlam in Goliath actually?

Definatly agree with the point you made about Francais De Mute, that album is excellent and just as good as their first. John Frusciantes little mini guitar solo near the start of the first song when the song explodes always sends shivers down my back.

Also I found Amputecture to be extremely bland as well. The intro, although musically impressive, is so boring and dragged out

Tremulant and De-loused = Amazing
Frances the Mute = Class
Amputechture = Lame

The new album's really class, I've only listened to it like one and a half times though. Definitely takes longer than that to get properly into their albums.

Sparta are real good. Wiretap Scars is class and I haven't listened to Porcelain that much but it is good, I only flicked through the songs on Threes and it seemed like a load of balls.

The Mars Volta have some amazing songs but they also have a load that are just annoying to listen to because they're so long and progressive.

Smooth moves, RoRo.

The reason I'm a softie for this band is that, back when I lived with my dirty bastard uncle, I read this book:
http://www.imageriedesroyaumes.fr/Livres/Romans/Forgotten_Realms/The_Dark_Elf_Trilogy/The_Dark_Elf_Trilogy_Collector's_Edition_1.jpg
...while listening to Deloused on repeat in the space of like two or three days. It ruled, sometimes the music matched the writing haha.

Those long bits are what TMV are all about and they weren't boring and I'm pretty sure they weren't improvs, either. They were good at Oxegen but the sound was weird and vocals too low.

Ronan
11th December 2009, 09:45 AM
Did anyone else go last night? Thought they were really good. They played plenty of older stuff, the song with loads of piano off Frances The Mute, Eriatarka, Cicatriz ESP, Miranda, That Ghost..., The Widow, Roulette Dares. And of course the better songs off the new record. They didn't go even slightly mental on stage or anything, don't know why I had any notion they might, having seen them before.
