xCiaránx

I'm still worried whether their next record will be any good without Casey. Even if it's not though, I've already fuckloads more amazing Dear Hunter material than TREOS stuff to keep me going.

Ronan
21st December 2006, 05:18 PM

<3

Still very good.

Sam
18th June 2007, 06:57 PM
I dunno what I feel about the new song. It feels really cluttered, and nothing in it is really sticking in my mind. Maybe it's a grower.

Sean-Lugsy
18th June 2007, 07:01 PM
I felt that way when I first listened to some of BTHATS. I'm not going to assume TESMFM will be bad purely because he left.

That acoustic version is something else towards the end. Some shakey singing in parts but the acapella bit is amazing.

Sam
18th June 2007, 07:08 PM
I felt that way when I first listened to some of BTHATS. I'm not going to assume TESMFM will be bad purely because he left.

Yeah, me too, it took me ages to get into some songs properly. I hope this one grows on me, I liked the other clips I've heard so far.

The acoustic version is incredible.

xCiaránx
18th June 2007, 07:55 PM
The Crop and the Pest? BEEF. I dunno... Hopefully it's a grower, yeah. Smoke and Mirrors is definitely more immediate.

You've only heard the acoustic This Armistice now, Lugosi? Shameful.

Sam
18th June 2007, 08:10 PM
Sean, post up that live version of This Armistice you were talking about in the car.

Sean-Lugsy
20th June 2007, 08:52 PM
Oh yeah, must find it. Posting for later.

Sam
20th June 2007, 08:58 PM
Class :)

Sean-Lugsy
20th June 2007, 09:40 PM
Shite. It wasn't Youtube. I honestly can't remember where I heard it. I was on a mad TREOS buzz one day and went through a load of obscure fan sites and just came across it.

All Casey's parts are sung by Alex and it sounds class. It's probably because in most of their live clips they don't sound too tight but they did in this particular one.

xCiaránx
20th June 2007, 10:08 PM
Smoke and Mirrors sounds so good.

Sam
20th June 2007, 10:20 PM
It definitely sounds better than The Crop and The Pest, though I'm liking that more on repeated listens.

I was really looking forward to that version... ah well. Post it if you ever stumble across it again.

Sean-Lugsy

Until They Become Conscious...the song that is, apparently, now Smoke and Mirrors. I prefer this one.

xCiaránx
21st June 2007, 07:33 PM
Yeah, there are a bunch of videos from that same show that I was browsing the other day, Hemi and Stay Small and stuff. Sounding good.

Sam
22nd June 2007, 02:18 AM
That's class. The whole show looks so good, really. I dunno if I'd prefer it to the current version though, from the bit of it on youtube Smoke and Mirrors sounds pretty good.

I almost haven't stopped listening to TREOS the past few days. BTHATS just doesn't get boring to me.

xCiaránx
22nd June 2007, 05:10 AM
They definitely made the right decision when they put that chorus in and made it Smoke and Mirrors.

Sean-Lugsy
22nd June 2007, 05:43 PM
The vocals in Smoke and Mirrors that Brendan sings are class but I like what he sings in the intro to the original. Conundrum.

Either way, mad excited. I'm ashamed to have written them off once Casey left.

Also, the video diaries of TDH in studio are class.

knockmark
24th June 2007, 01:28 PM
that new song on their purevolume page is deadly, cant wait for their album now :)

Ronan
8th July 2007, 12:07 AM
The new song is indeed class. Two of the segues/interludes from the forthcoming album (at least I think they're supposed be on the record) are up on a public gmail Brendan made. They sound good.
username: theearthsings@gmail.com
Pass: fleethefactory

Enjoi.

Sam
8th July 2007, 03:33 AM
Those segues are alright, yeah. They're not going on the album though, Brendan says as much in the fleethefactory thread he posted that account and username in.

Decided I'm gonna avoid listening to any new TREOS 'till the whole album is out/leaked. I listened to the couple of leaked Circa tracks way too much before the album came out and it kind of ruined it for me; now I always just wanna skip those tracks.

xCiaránx
11th July 2007, 12:04 AM
Is it because of them prime number frets they use?

ianthefox
11th July 2007, 12:21 AM

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Leaks are the reason the internet was invented.

Wez-o!
11th July 2007, 06:21 PM
id much rather hear the whole thing finished than demos.

xCiaránx
11th July 2007, 06:24 PM
Yeah, albums never get leaked in their entirety after all...

Wez-o!
11th July 2007, 06:27 PM
if they did i would love them.

leaks of the demos and rough recordings are awful.
the poor sound quality ruin the songs.

Ronan
12th July 2007, 11:19 PM
Is it because of them prime number frets they use?
Nah. That'd just be ridiculous. It's because some songs will get older sooner than others. Thus making it less enjoyable for me to listen to the album in it's entirety, i.e. without skipping tracks.

I will, of course, listen once a full, decent quality leak appears.

xCiaránx
12th July 2007, 11:26 PM
So yeah, Saturnus is class.

Sam
24th July 2007, 02:08 AM
I'm not leaving the internet until this leaks. So if someone from TREOS is reading... I'd like to leave the internet soon. Go on.

I'LL NEVER TAKE THE BAIT, I'LL NEVER FALL FOR THEM...

Sean-Lugsy
24th July 2007, 02:14 AM
Have you reason to believe it's going to leak soon?

Sam
24th July 2007, 02:15 AM
I have hope, Sean. Endless hope. That's about all.

Sean-Lugsy
24th July 2007, 02:16 AM
Fuck, you're making me excited, now...

Sam

But yeah, the ecard is class and the review has me fucking stoked.

Sean-Lugsy
24th July 2007, 02:44 AM
I've totally clung to Crop and Pest lately. That change in the chorus is amazing. For a second you think they won't do it because it's too obvious, then they do but 2 bars later, and it's fucking amazing. G'wan the Aeolian.

xCiaránx
24th July 2007, 03:13 AM
The Salesman... is going to be immense.

Sean-Lugsy
24th July 2007, 03:16 AM
I've yet to see this ecard. Give me.
Never mind.

Sam
24th July 2007, 03:27 AM
I still can't believe you didn't post about that ecard when you found out, Ciarán. Sean and I could have been listening to this last night.

xCiaránx
24th July 2007, 03:35 AM
I need you on MSN to run through shit first. You wouldn't have been happy to discover the likes or Ronan had listened first, would you?

Sam
24th July 2007, 03:37 AM
Now that you put it like that, good call Ciarán.

Sean-Lugsy
24th July 2007, 03:39 AM
Wow some of the guitar work on Salesman is really good. I really hope the texturing and multi timbral layering is in any way as good as the latter part of Synapse.

Only gave it one listen so far in work but it will be staying on all day.

They seem to use more digital drums this time around and the album gradually gets more intricate towards the end.

At times though the vocals are begging to have Caseys voice in there.

This album is definitely not as good as Heart and Synapse. The obvious 5 tracks are really really good, but it's the same problem I had with Circa Survive for ages. So much going on that's technically good, but not enough hooks and kinda washes over. I'm hoping for my own sake that I don't grow to hate this album.

Thanks for those links btw Ciarán. I dunno how I feel about Weight/Wait, it's made very little impression on me. That 'acoustic' version is good. It'd be better if it was actually acoustic and the vocals were in the higher octave, though.

From .Moneen.'s blog:

But the one project that I am the most excited about is my good friend Brian Southall's SEAWEED cover he has been working on. Brian plays in REOS, he has also played a lot of other great bands. He emailed me a little while ago about singing over this seaweed cover he was putting together. He was covering STEADFAST SHRINE for a SEAWEED tribute coming out on Engineer records.

He sent me the music and it really got me excited to do this.
So this time instead of waiting around till the last second I started right away.
I was very proud of the song afterwards. I think Brian did an amaazing job re-creating the song.
As well I think I did not so bad myself singing it.
I wanted to make sure not to just sing the song and call it a day...I wanted to put a lot into this...and I did. Lots of tracks and even more idea trials later I had what I would consider one of my most favorite peices of singing work I have done.

Weird.

Greetings to all who take the time to read this
letter. I suppose the typical, and most obvious
sentiment to express is the one I am undoubtedly
feeling at the moment: "I'm not sure how to start
this." So for the sake of brevity, I'll get right to
the point. The Receiving End of Sirens will no longer
exist in the way it has for the past 5 years.

I, Brendan, must admit that I am the main reason
why TREOS is ending. My choice to no longer continue
on with The Receiving End of Sirens has nothing to do
with a lack of love for my band, and/or band members.
It has nothing to do with a lack of passion for our
music, or any music for that matter. My decision is
due mostly in part to a huge rearranging of priorities
in my life, and the unquestionable responsibility that
comes along with becoming a father. January 15th my
wife and I welcomed Parker Brown, our first child,
into the world. Since then everything has changed. The
happiness and joy I gained from being part of this
band can't ever be taken away from me, but to be
honest, I have lived a long time thinking that specific joy was as
good as it got. Since Parker's birth I have realized
my joy is a great thing, in and of itself, but the
happiness I receive from his happiness is
exponentially greater than anything I could muster on
my own. The thought of leaving him to tour for months
at a time is something I just can't stomach. I can't
stand to miss another thing. I realize how important
I am to my band, and how important our band is to some
people, but I am far more elemental in the growth and
happiness of my child, than I am anything else in this
world.

I can't even begin to explain how appreciative I
am for the understanding Alex, Andrew, Brian, and Nate
have shown me, given the choice I have made. Although
it was a series of divine intersections that brought
us to where we are today, it is certainly an
unfortunate intersection, of my life with theirs, that
brings this band to an end. It goes without saying,
not everyone is at the same place in their lives as I
am. Therefore, it is my situation that has decided
theirs. For that I am sorry, but have no doubt each
and every one of them will be successful in whatever
they put their minds to.

A dilemma we now face, is the same one we have
encountered with our music over the course of our
career; How do we label this? Do we say this is a
breakup? Do we say we're on indefinite hiatus (like a lot
of our favorite bands)? By saying we are over,
does any show, or musical collaboration, make it a
reunion? Does it then mean our band is back together
until we break up again? On the other hand, by going
on hiatus are we lying if we never do another thing
again? The answer to all those questions is, I don't
know, and the battle of syntax continues.

With all that said, the main priority of The
Receiving End of Sirens has always been our music.
After all, though it is easy to lose site of, the
music is what bands are supposed to be about. Since
2003 our art has always been our baby, and its
well being has always taken precedence over our own.
Maybe it's over-romanticizing our situation, but we
would love to think that through relentless
touring, through a fan-base second to none, and by way
of the records we have released, our music has the
momentum behind it to continue on as its own entity at
this time.

For the longest time we knew our music needed us
in order to survive. This is why for many years we
have each sacrificed many things in order to promote
it by any means necessary. Our hope now is that The
Receiving End of Sirens will live on because of our
music. Not the other way around.

We are sure this comes as a surprise to most, and a
let-down to many of you as well. For that we are eternally
sorry. We all realize that the band five right out of
high school kids started for fun has grown to be
something bigger than any of us could have imagined.
The music we have created has carried itself far
outside the confines of the house we first practiced
in, and the city we all met in, and has effected many
more than just those of us who have been members of
TREOS over the years. We realize, as have others,
that you don't need an instrument to be a part of this
band. Anyone who has put us up on tour, has
told a friend about our band, has listened to our
music, has paid to see a show, or has brought us
food on the road is a member of TREOS. Anyone who
has worked with us to make this band what it is today,
from management to booking, from labels to press, and
all that other business stuff, we are forever
grateful to you for your belief in our band. You are
all a part of this too. It would take hundreds, if not thousands,
of more lines to personally thank everyone we need to thank,
so we're going to rest assured that those people
know who they are, and what they've meant to us.

To all the bands who have
brought us on tour, or who have shared a tour with us,
or have supported us, thank you for your eccentric,
loving, empathetic friendships. We wish you all the best, and
will miss you all! From those of you who were with us
at our first show in Enfield CT, or our many shows at
The Norwood American Legion and the surrounding Boston
suburbs, or Ben's last show in Fitchburg, thank you!
Everyone who was with us for the "Between the
Heart and the Synapse" years with Casey, as our van
and music first made its way around this huge country,
thank you! To old fans who have been with us from the
start, to new ones who just started listening to our
band, and to the fans who have yet to hear our band,
thank you. To everyone who has ever tattooed their body
with lyrics or imagery or references to our music, thank you!
Everyone who has embraced
version 3; "The Earth Sings MI FA MI" TREOS, with the
welcomed addition of Brian Southall, thank you! Thank
you friends, family, fans, colleagues, bands, sponsors.
Thank you ALL for making the past 5
years beautiful, magical, inspiring, and full of amazing
stories and memories.

As for the current members of TREOS, you haven't
heard the last of any of us. In due time I am sure
you will hear about all of our plans, but worry not, we
will all continue working with music in one facet or
another. Some of us may be touring, some of us may be
recording, booking, or managing, but all of us are looking forward to
starting a new chapter in our lives.

With all that behind us, we will be playing a
couple final shows. It would mean the world to us to
be able to share them with you all. We will be joined by some great
friends who we've grown close with over the years on the stage,
and we'd like to share the same experience with our great friends
off the stage, so please come say goodbye and let's end this thing
the right way.

Fuck, Dead Men Tell No Tales is up there. What a tune.

The song Anhedonia by The Graduate sounds so ripped off from TREOS.

Sam

Anhedonia's def way poppier than TREOS ever got. I see what you mean though, the general sound of the track is kinda reminiscent of them.

Ronan
21st March 2008, 06:30 AM
The verse is straight off the crop and the pest or something I think. But yeah, the rest of that album is kinda poppy mulch. Don't like their singer much. You listen to end of the track Surround yourself off that record? I really don't think it's supposed to sound as out of tune and shit as it does.
